Hi! I have some news for you guys! I’m so excited to announce that I finally pulled the trigger and I enrolled myself in College!!! I have always been a believer of the quote that goes like this: “You’re never over dressed or overeducated”so once again for the third time in my life and at 40 I’m a student again. An interior design student. Sounds crazy right?
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m one of those people that found their passion after years working in a corporate world. After much encouragement from family and friends I decided to become an interior decorator. So I started to educate myself, I bought every book I could think of about interior design. I created an Instagram account (initially @Noplacelike like home now @JOYindecorOcala) and I started posting pictures of my works at home. I literally stalked my favorite designer’s accounts for months. (No shame about it, I learned a lot). I became an interior decorator enthusiast (wannabe 😂) in no time.Once I felt I was ready, I decided to take the next step and launch my own business JOY in decor Ocala, so I did it. I’ve been working non-stop since then and I’m extremely happy with my new career, however, I have always been a business woman (with a Master’s degree in Business) so I know that I have to be prepared to compete and credentials sometimes can open a lot of doors and make a huge difference. Wish me luck my friends, this is just the beginning of countless nights without sleeping but I’m sure in the end it will all be worth it.
On another note, I want to share with you my latest project. I’m extremely happy because for the first time ever, I could work with a client that allowed me to have total control of the design. She said: “Do whatever you want with the budget, I trust you and I know it’s going to be beautiful”. I think that’s music to the ears of any designer or decorator. Those words gave me confidence in my work, but at the same time, a lot of responsibility. I had to deliver. The job was a master bedroom and a master bathroom. She wanted to keep the bed and the end tables so I needed to work around that. A beautiful indigo blue bed was my canvas and the first thing I thought when saw the space was: A rug, it’s all about the rug. I envisioned the space with an amazing statement rug, and thank The Lord I found it. I left the rest of the decoration neutral and simple because I didn’t want to overwhelm the space. Two mirrors over the end tables, vintage table lamps, candles, flowers and a round wall art made of mango tree wood complete the elegant but at the same time simple look I was looking for. A white bedding, a few throw pillows and a cozy blanket made this room one of those rooms you can spend the entire weekend in.
For the master bathroom, I chose everything I could think of to make it look like a real Spa. Two nice Turkish cotton bath robes, flowers, candles, mirrors, lavender oil and beautiful towels made this bathroom extremely relaxing and inviting.
Decorating is an ongoing learning process, even after completing my studies, I’ll be learning from another sources. I’m embracing my new endeavors with a lot of love and enthusiasm.
